NORTHAMPTON TOWN WOMEN MANAGEMENT DUO DELIGHTED WITH CUP SUCCESS

Reaction to Sunday's game

22 April 2024

Northampton Town Women joint-managers Josh Oldfield and Liam Williams were full of praise for their side after they won the Northamptonshire FA Women’s Cup.

The Cobblers defeated rivals Peterborough United in the final at the Dog and Duck Football Ground on Sunday.

Oldfield said: “We’re delighted because it’s a deserved reward after a really hard season.

“Peterborough changed their approach a little bit, but I thought we had the better of it over the course of both halves.

“We started really quickly, but they got a foothold in the game midway through the first half.

“We felt that we needed to regain control when we went in at half-time, and I think the girls were superb in the second half.

“We couldn’t have asked for more from them in the way that they won their first and second contacts and combatted what Peterborough do so well.

“It’s never easy against them, but we were excellent today.”

The Cobblers welcome Notts County to Sixfields Stadium on the final day of the season in a fortnight. Tickets are available to purchase at ntfcdirect.co.uk.

Williams added: “It’s another big occasion coming around the corner.

“We have a week off now, but our preparations will be as intense as they usually are.

“We have a fortnight to prepare for a fixture that will hopefully be played in front of lots of fans.

“We want to put on a good show for them, and we’ll be looking for three points.”
